We run San Joaquin Hills off the SR-73, and it is a route our trucks are on most weeks rather than a special trip. about 25 min southeast via PCH or I-405 to SR-73 — which in practice means a morning drop is a normal booking, not something that needs planning around.
San Joaquin Hills was a census-designated place until it was annexed into Newport Beach effective January 1, 2002 — it is now a Newport Beach neighborhood in the hills east of Newport Center, distinct from the SR-73 toll road that shares the name and from the separate San Joaquin Hills tract in Laguna Niguel.
The hills above Newport Center are mature 1970s-80s view tracts — Harbor View Hills, Spyglass Hill, Big Canyon — where the work is almost entirely remodel and rebuild: full-house renovations, view-deck and slope work, pool replacements and re-roofs on homes that turn over at high value. The public side is city park and trail maintenance, Bonita Canyon Sports Park tournaments, Corona del Mar High athletics, and Big Canyon Country Club events and course projects.
